<h2 id="hideshare">Hide iSeries NetServer from the network</h2><a id="idx22" name="idx22"></a><a id="idx23" name="idx23"></a>

<p>For an added measure of security you can hide iSeries NetServer™ from the Windows My Network Places.</p>
|
||
|
|
<p>To hide iSeries NetServer from the network follow these steps:</p>
|
||
|
|
<ol type="1">

||
|
|
<li>Open iSeries Navigator and connect to the system you want to work with.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Expand <span class="bold">Network</span>.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Expand <span class="bold">Servers</span>.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Click <span class="bold">TCP/IP</span> to display a list of TCP/IP servers available.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Right-click <span class="bold">iSeries NetServer</span> and select <span class="bold">Properties</span>.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Click the <span class="bold">Advanced</span> tab and click the <span class="bold">Next Start</span> button.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Select <span class="bold">None</span> in the <span class="bold">Browsing announcement interval</span> field.

|
||

|
<div class="notebody">Setting the browsing announcement interval to <span class="bold">None </span>stops the host announcements to the network. It also stops domain announcements if iSeries NetServer is configured as a Logon Server and may cause problems for logon services for some networks. In general, the default browsing announcement interval should be left if iSeries NetServer is a Logon Server. The default browsing announcement interval is 720 seconds, or 12 minutes.</div></li></ol>
