<div><p>A logical partition on an iSeries™ server can support Linux, a non-OS/400
operating system. </p>
<div class="p"><div class="note"><span class="notetitle">Note:</span> To run Linux in a logical partition, you must have V5R4 or later
without an <span>Hardware Management Console</span> running in
the primary partition.</div>
<p><strong>Prerequisites</strong></p>

<dd>Before creating new partitions on the server, refer to instructions on
performing a full server back up.</dd>

<dd>In order to access logical partition functions, you must first configure
the service tools server.</dd>

<dd><span><span>iSeries</span> Navigator</span> provides a graphical
wizard to help create logical partitions. It comes packaged with iSeries Access
for Windows<sup>®</sup> and
does not require an iSeries Access license to use. You will find detailed
instructions and explanations in <span><span>iSeries</span> Navigator</span> help
topics.</dd>

<div class="section">To create a logical partition, follow these steps:</div>
<ol><li><span>In <span><span>iSeries</span> Navigator</span>, expand <span class="uicontrol">My
Connections</span> or your active environment.</span></li>
<li><span>Select the primary partition of the server.</span></li>
<li><span>Expand <span class="uicontrol">Configuration and Service</span> and select <span class="uicontrol">Logical
Partitions</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>Right-click the physical server and select <span class="uicontrol">Configure
Partitions</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>From the Configure Logical Partition display, right-click the <span class="uicontrol">Physical
System</span> and select <span class="uicontrol">New Logical Partitions</span> to
start the wizard.</span></li>
