This topic provides information about how to configure the ASF
Tomcat module for your HTTP Server as well as manage your local ASF Tomcat
servers with the IBM® Web Administration for i5/OS™ interface.

Important: Information
for this topic supports the latest PTF levels for HTTP Server for i5/OS .
It is recommended that you install the latest PTFs to upgrade to the latest
level of the HTTP Server for i5/OS. Some of the topics documented here are
not available prior to this update. See http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/software/http/services/service.htm for more information.

Use the IBM Web
Administration for i5/OS™ interface to configure the ASF Tomcat module
for your HTTP Server (powered by Apache), as well as, manage your local ASF
Tomcat servers. The interface supports both in-process and out-of-process
ASF Tomcat servers.

An in-process ASF Tomcat server runs within an HTTP Server (powered by
Apache) process and starts and ends at the same times as the HTTP server.
An out-of-process ASF Tomcat server runs in its own process and may be started
or stopped independently of the HTTP server. Out-of-process servers make it
possible for the HTTP server and the servlet engine to exist on different
systems.

The ASF Tomcat module is used by the HTTP Server (powered by Apache) to
intercept certain requests and forward them to an ASF Tomcat server anywhere
within your network for the servlet engine to handle.
