Linux on
an integrated xSeries solution

This will help you learn about using Intel-based Linux® solution
on the iSeries™ platform
with the Integrated xSeries® Server and Integrated xSeries Adapter.

There are numerous applications that are developed for Linux on Intel®.
Take advantage of all of these applications by integrating Linux using the
Integrated xSeries Server
(IXS) and the Integrated xSeries Adapter (IXA).

Linux with
IXS and IXA allows you to use the virtual disk, virtual optical, and virtual
tape of the iSeries.
There are several benefits to putting Linux on the iSeries. Linux is built
on the same concepts that integrated xSeries servers use.

Management of i5/OS™ and Linux servers
from a central location.

Dynamically link and unlink additional virtual storage for backup or other
maintenance.

i5/OS backup provides
for the Linux storage
area to be backed up with the normal i5/OS backup.

Logical servers allow testing with the production image and hardware.

Easily switch the production environment to another server if a maintenance
or a hardware error causes the server to go down.

Reduced total cost of ownership with the iSeries warranty and maintenance coverage
of the IXS.

This topic is the updated version of the Implementing Linux on Integrated xSeries Solutions
for iSeries.
