<div><p>You can use the Packet Internet Groper (Ping) function to test
IP-level connectivity between two TCP/IP-capable interfaces or systems.</p>
<div class="section"> <div class="p">Ping sends out a special IP packet to a specified
host. If the destination host receives this special packet, it replies to
you with a message which indicates to you that you can communicate with that
host. You can use the Ping utility in two different ways: <ul><li>Use it to test your local TCP/IP configuration. For example, after setting
up TCP/IP on the server for the first time you can use Ping to test the TCP/IP
configuration.</li>
<li>Use Ping to test your ability to communicate with other hosts on the local
or remote networks.</li>
</ul>
