<div><p>The first step in configuring a PPP connection between systems
is to create a connection profile on the iSeries™ server.</p>
<div class="section"> <p> The connection profile is the logical representation of the
following connection details: </p>
<ul><li>Line and profile type</li>
<li>Multilink settings</li>
<li>Remote telephone numbers and dialing options</li>
<li>Authentication</li>
<li>TCP/IP settings: IP addresses and routing</li>
<li>Work management and connection customization</li>
<li>Domain name servers</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Remote Access Services</strong>, under the Network directory, contains
the following objects: </p>
<ul><li><strong>Originator Connection Profiles</strong> are outbound point-to-point connections
that originate from the iSeries server (local system). These are PPP connections
that a remote system receives.</li>
<li><strong>Receiver Connection Profiles</strong> are inbound point-to-point connections
that originate from a remote system. These are PPP connections that the iSeries server
(local system) receives.</li>
<li><strong>Modems</strong></li>
</ul>
<p>Follow these steps to create a connection profile:</p>

<ol><li class="stepexpand"><span>In iSeries Navigator,
select your system, and expand <span class="menucascade"><span class="uicontrol">Network</span> &gt; <span class="uicontrol">Remote Access Services</span></span>.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Select one from the following options:</span><ul><li>Right-click <strong>Originator Connection Profiles</strong> to set the iSeries server
as a server that initiates connections.</li>
<li>Right-click <strong>Receiver Connection Profiles</strong> to set the iSeries server
as a server that allows incoming connections from remote systems and users.</li>
</ul>

<li class="stepexpand"><span>Select <span class="uicontrol">New Profile</span>.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>On the New Point-to-Point Connection Profile Setup page, select
the protocol type.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Specify the mode selections.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Select the link configuration.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Click <span class="uicontrol">OK</span>.</span> <p>The New Point-to-Point
Profile Properties page appears. You can set the rest of the values that are
specific to your network. Refer to the online help for specific information.</p>
