<h1 class="topictitle1">Start a VTxxx Telnet client session</h1>
<div><p><span>You can start a Telnet client session using
VTxxx emulation.</span></p>
<p>You need to start the Telnet server on the remote system (the system that
you want to connect to using Telnet).</p>
<div class="note"><span class="notetitle">Note:</span> You should know the name or Internet address of the remote system with
which you want to start the Telnet session. To display the Internet addresses
and host names, complete the following steps: <ol><li>Start iSeries™ Navigator
and expand <span class="menucascade"><span class="uicontrol">your iSeries server</span> &gt; <span class="uicontrol">Network</span></span>.</li>
<li>Right-click <span class="uicontrol">TCP/IP Configuration</span> and click <span class="uicontrol">Host
Table</span> to display the Internet addresses and host names.</li>

the iSeries command
line and press <span class="uicontrol">Enter</span>.</li>
<li>Type the name of the remote system, or type <samp class="codeph">*INTNETADR</samp> if
you prefer to use the Internet address. If you want to see the optional parameters,
press F10. Otherwise, press <span class="uicontrol">Enter</span>.<p>If you typed <samp class="codeph">*INTNETADR</samp> for
the <span class="uicontrol">Remote system</span> field, iSeries prompts you for the <span class="uicontrol">Internet
address</span> field.</p>

<li>Type the Internet address of the remote system. To use the optional parameters,
press <span class="uicontrol">F10</span>, otherwise press <span class="uicontrol">Enter</span>.
The display shows optional parameter values and the Internet address information.</li>
<li>To use the default parameter values, press <span class="uicontrol">Enter</span>.</li>
<li>During a VTxxx full-screen mode session, the following optional parameters
are also applicable:<ul><li>Incoming ASCII translation table (TBLVTIN)</li>
<li>Outgoing ASCII translation table (TBLVTOUT)</li>
<li>Special table out (TBLVTDRWO)</li>
<li>Special table in (TBLVTDRWI)</li>
<li>Options selected (VTOPT)</li>
<li>Display character attributes (DSPCHRATTR)</li>
<li>Page scroll feature (PAGESCROLL)</li>
<li>Answer back feature (ANSWERBACK)</li>
<li>Tab Stops (TABSTOP)</li>
<li>Timeout wait for host (INZWAIT)</li>
<li>Coded character set identifier (CCSID)</li>
<li>ASCII operating mode (ASCOPRMOD)-- applies to initializing a VT220 session
only (has no effect on negotiations)</li>
<li>Port number of the remote host server application (PORT)</li>
<li>Control Characters (CTLCHAR)</li>
</ul>

<div class="note"><span class="notetitle">Note:</span> Unexpected characters might appear due to the incorrect configuration
of the remote system. If this happens, verify that the workstation-type value
is an appropriate value for a VTxxx full-screen mode workstation. You can
also use the set term command to change the full-screen mode of the connection.</div>
