<h1 class="topictitle1">Create your own virtual devices</h1>
<div><p>You can manually create virtual devices, with custom names or automatically
generated names.</p>
<p>You can create virtual controllers and devices. If you create your own
virtual devices and allow your iSeries™ server to automatically select
the device name, you must be aware of the following rules:</p>
<ul><li>The virtual controller will have the name QPACTL <var class="varname">nn</var>,
where <var class="varname">nn</var> is a decimal number 01 or greater.</li>
<li>The virtual device will have the name QPADEV <var class="varname">xxxx</var>,
where <var class="varname">xxxx</var> is an alphanumeric character from 0001 to ZZZZ.
The virtual device should have a device class of *VRT. The location of the
virtual device is under a virtual controller.</li>
</ul>
<p>If you choose to create your own devices, you should be familiar with the
Virtual device descriptions naming conventions used by the Telnet server.
If you want to select your own device names (using a RFC 2877 client or the
Virtual Terminal API's), then the virtual controller will have
the name QVIRCDnnnn, where nnnn is a decimal number 01 or greater.</p>
