Logical partition scenario: Server consolidation

This scenario demonstrates how workload consolidation can be achieved
on an iSeries™ server.

Situation

You are the system administrator for a
small technology company. You are responsible for maintaining 3 servers. Currently,
server 1 maintains payroll and technical data for the company. Server 2 maintains
development projects while server 3 serves as the production box. Management
wants to reduce expenses and asked you for your suggestions. You believe partitioning
will streamline the company's information technology (IT) operations and improve
server availability. You suggest they consolidate servers and partition one iSeries server.
You have consulted with an IBM® Business Partner and verified that an 840 iSeries model
will meet your company's needs. The server has arrived and your hardware has
been assigned. What should you do?

Objectives

The objectives of this scenario are as
follows:

Create or use a service tools user ID with LPAR administrator authority.

Configure the Service Tools Server.

Create 4 partitions on the iSeries server.

Solution

You must complete each of these tasks to
create the 3 secondary partitions described in this scenario.
