<div><div class="section"> <p>Silent installations use a response file (file.iss) for the responses
to prompts during the installation process. This eliminates the need for any
user interaction during the installation process, and allows you to quickly
and easily copy duplicate installations across your network. Information about
the status of the silent installation can be recorded in a log file (file.log).</p>

<div class="p"><span>To start a silent installation, type the following at a command
prompt in the iSeries™ Access
for Windows<sup>®</sup> installation
image directory:</span> <pre>setup -s -f1d:\dir\file.iss -f2d:\dir\file.log</pre>
<p>where:</p>
<ul><li class="liexpand"><samp class="codeph">-f1</samp> is an optional parameter where you can specify the
response file (<strong>file.iss</strong>) to use. If you do not use this parameter,
then the installation attempts to use a default response file named setup.iss.
It looks for this file in the directory containing setup.exe. <p><samp class="codeph">d:\dir</samp> is
the drive and directory that contains the response file that you want to use.
If you use the <var class="varname">-f1</var> parameter, then you must specify the
drive and directory along with the response file name.</p>

<li class="liexpand"><samp class="codeph">-f2</samp> is an optional parameter where you can specify the
location and name for the log file that the silent installation creates. If
you do not use this parameter, the installation creates a log file named setup.log
and places it in the directory containing setup.exe. <p><samp class="codeph">d:\dir</samp> is
the drive and directory that contains the log file. If you use the <samp class="codeph">-f2</samp> parameter,
then you must specify the drive and directory along with the log file name. <strong>file.log</strong> is
the name of the log file that you want to create.</p>
