<h3 id="rzahqrstrf">Predefined disk drives for integrated Windows servers</h3>
<p>The IBM&reg; iSeries&trade; Integrated Server Support installation process creates two disk
drives (network server storage spaces) for installing and running integrated
servers. See <a href="rzahqstcco.htm#rzahqstcco">Disk drives for integrated Windows servers</a>. By default, i5/OS&trade; creates these
disk drives in the system disk pool (ASP), but you can choose a different
location during the installation. i5/OS also uses these disk drives to load and
start the integrated server.</p>
<p>Servers have these predefined disk drives:</p>
<dl>
<dt class="bold"><span class="bold">Boot and system drive (C)</span></dt>
<dd>This drive serves as the system drive. i5/OS names this drive <span class="italic">server</span>1, where <span class="italic">server</span> is the name of the network
server description (NWSD). This disk drive resides in the integrated file
system and is automatically linked as the first drive.
<p>The C drive ranges
from 1,024 to 1,024,000 MB. You can choose to leave the drive as FAT. The
C drive is automatically converted to NTFS, if required by the size of the
storage space.</p>
<a name="wq289"></a>
<div class="notetitle" id="wq289">Note:</div>
<div class="notebody">If you plan to create NWSD configuration
files, be aware that support for these files exists only for disk drives that
are formatted as FAT or FAT32. See <a href="rzahqrzahqcpkpo.htm#rzahqrzahqcpkpo">Network server description configuration files</a>. A system
drive that has been converted to NTFS is not accessible for NWSD configuration
files. For more information about the different file systems, see <a href="rzahqfilesystems.htm#rzahqfilesystems">Comparison of FAT, FAT32, and NTFS file systems</a> .</div>
</dd>
<dt class="bold"><span class="bold">Installation source drive (D)</span></dt>
<dd>The D drive can be 200 - 2,047 MB and holds a copy of the Windows server
installation code and the IBM iSeries Integrated Server Support code. i5/OS names this
drive <span class="italic">server</span>2, where <span class="italic">server</span> is
the name of the NWSD. This disk drive resides in the integrated file system
and is automatically linked as the second drive. i5/OS formats the D drive as a file allocation
table (FAT) disk.
<p><span class="bold">Attention:</span> This drive must remain
as a FAT drive. Do not make any changes to this drive. i5/OS uses this drive
to perform code updates, and changing the drive can make performing updates
impossible.</p>
