|
||

<p>If you have a problem with an integrated server's external network</p>
|
||
|
<ul>
|
||
|
<li>Review the integrated Windows server event log for either
|
||
|
communication errors or device driver errors. You can use the Windows <span class="bold"> Event Viewer</span> to do this. Event logs associated with external
|
||
|
adapters supported by 2890, 2892, and 4812 Integrated xSeries® Servers
|
||
|
may have one of the following in the event log Source field: IBMTRP, PCNET,
|
||
|
ALTND5, E100B, or E1000. If you can not find text in event logs for the IBMTRP
|
||
|
token-ring service, you need to make changes in the Windows Registry.
|
||

<dd>If you are not familiar with the process for making changes in the Windows

Registry, contact a service representative.

</dl> If you are familiar with this process, to make the text in the event
|
||
|
logs viewable, complete the following steps.
|
||
|

||
|
<li>From the Windows <span class="bold">Start</span> menu, click <span class="bold">Run</span>.</li>
|
||
|
<li>Type <tt>regedit.</tt></li>
|
||
|
<li>In the Registry Editor, go to <tt>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\System\IBMTRP </tt></li>
|
||
|
<li> Select <span class="bold">EventMessageFile</span>.</li>
|
||
|
<li>From the Registry Editor <span class="bold">Edit</span> menu, select <span class="bold">Modify</span>.</li>
|
||
|
<li>Type <tt>%SystemRoot%\System32\netevent.dll;%SystemRoot%\System32\ibmsgnet.dll</tt></li>
|
||
|
<li>Close the Registry Editor and restart the integrated server.</li></ol></li>
|
||
|
<li>For Ethernet adapters, ensure that a driver with <span class="bold">iSeries</span> or <span class="bold">AMD PCNET Family Ethernet Adapter (PCI)</span> in
|
||
|
its name is listed and has a status of <span class="bold">started</span>.

<li>Click on <span class="bold">Start</span>, then <span class="bold">Administrative
|
||
|
Tools</span>, then <span class="bold">Computer Management</span>, then <span class="bold">System Tools</span>, then <span class="bold"> Device Manager</span>, then <span class="bold">Network Adapters</span>.</li>
|
||
|
<li>Ensure that a driver with <span class="bold">iSeries</span> or <span class="bold">AMD PCNET Family Ethernet Adapter (PCI)</span> in its name is listed and has
|
||
|
a status of <span class="bold"> started</span>.</li></ol></li>
|
||
|
<li>For token-ring networks, also in <span class="bold">Device Manager</span>,
|
||
|
ensure that you have started the <span class="bold">IBM High-Speed 100/16/4
|
||
|
Token-Ring PCI Adapter</span> or <span class="bold">IBM PCI Token-Ring Adapter</span>.
|
||

<dd>The start up setting should be <span class="bold">Enable</span>.

<li>For token-ring networks, ensure that the Network Data Rate setting is
|
||
|
appropriate for your network.</li>
|
||
|
<li>For Ethernet networks, ensure that the Link Speed and Duplex settings
|
||
|
are appropriate for your switch or hub. If your 4812 or 5701 does not connect
|
||
|
at speeds greater than 100 million bits per second, check your switch's specifications
|
||
|
for compliance with the IEEE 802.3ab standard. Windows LAN drivers for 4812
|
||
|
or 5701 Gigabit Ethernet ports may be limited to 100 million bits per second
|
||
|
when connected to some early model non-compliant switches.</li>
|
||
|
<li>The 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port on the 2892 Integrated xSeries Server does not support direct connection to certain 10 Mbps
|
||
|
hubs and routers that lack <span class="bold">auto-polarity</span> functionality.
|
||
|
If you are having difficulty getting your 2892 10/100 port to work at all
|
||
|
with a 10 Mbps hub or router, check its specifications for <span class="bold">auto-polarity</span> support. Also, see if your 2892 10/100 port works with
|
||
|
other devices.</li>
|
||
|
<li>If the problem still persists, check the technical information databases
|
||
|
at the
|
||
|
