<h3 id="rzahqtdppi">Problems getting a Windows system memory dump</h3>
|
||
|
|
<p>If sufficient space is available on the system drive, your integrated Windows
|
||
|
|
server is automatically configured to collect a system memory dump when a
|
||
|
|
STOP error or blue screen occurs. If a system memory dump is not collected,
|
||
|
|
do the following.</p>
|
||
|
|
<ol type="1">
|
||
|
|
<li>Select <span class="bold">Start</span>, then <span class="bold">Programs</span>,
|
||
|
|
then <span class="bold">Administrative Tools</span>.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Click on <span class="bold">Computer Management</span>.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>In the <span class="bold">Action</span> menu, click <span class="bold">Properties</span>.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Select the <span class="bold">Advanced</span> tab</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Click the <span class="bold">Startup/Recovery</span> button.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Check the <span class="bold">Write debugging information to:</span> box. The
|
||
|
|
default path to the memory.dmp file that is created when a blue screen occurs
|
||
|
|
is <tt>%SystemRoot%</tt>, which is <tt>C:\WINNT</tt> for Windows 2000 Server and <tt>C:\WINDOWS</tt> for Windows Server 2003.</li></ol>
|
||
|
|
<p>Other problems that can prevent a system-memory dump from being taken include.</p>
|
||
|
|
<ul>
|
||
|
|
<li>Insufficient paging file size specified. The paging file size must be
|
||
|
|
large enough to hold all of physical RAM, plus 12 MB. To verify the amount
|
||
|
|
of physical RAM on your machine, do the following.
|
||
|
|
<ol type="1">
|
||
|
|
<li>Select <span class="bold">Start</span>, then <span class="bold">Settings</span>,
|
||
|
|
then <span class="bold">Control Panel</span>.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Double-click <span class="bold">System</span>. The value listed under <span class="bold">Computer</span> on the <span class="bold">General</span> page indicates
|
||
|
|
the amount of physical RAM you have on your system.</li></ol>
|
||
|
|
<p>To verify or change the paging file size, do the following.</p>
|
||
|
|
<ol type="1">
|
||
|
|
<li>Select the <span class="bold">Advanced</span> tab, and click the <span class="bold">Performance Options</span> button of the <span class="bold">Virtual Memory</span>
|
||
|
|
section. The <span class="bold">Virtual Memory</span> part of the window shows
|
||
|
|
the current paging file size.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>If you need to change the paging file size, click the <span class="bold">Change</span> button.</li></ol></li>
|
||
|
|
<li>The paging file is not located on the system drive. A system memory dump
|
||
|
|
is not collected unless the paging file is located on the system drive. The
|
||
|
|
system drive is the C: drive. To verify or change this, do the following.
|
||
|
|
|
||
|
|
<ol type="1">
|
||
|
|
<li>Select the <span class="bold">Advanced</span> tab, and click the <span class="bold">Performance Options</span> button of the <span class="bold">Virtual Memory</span>
|
||
|
|
section.</li></ol></li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Insufficient space is available on the drive you specified as the path
|
||
|
|
to the memory.dmp file. The default path for the memory.dmp file is the system
|
||
|
|
drive, but you may change it to another drive. Verify that sufficient free
|
||
|
|
space exists on the system drive or the drive you chose if you changed it.
|
||
|
|
The free space needed is equal to the size of physical RAM, plus 12 MB.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>If the problem still persists, check the technical information databases
|
||
|
|
at the
|
||
|
|
