Harrison is the administrator for a new iSeries™ server for fictitious Culver
Pharmaceuticals.</p>

needs to configure the Telnet server to meet the following specifications:</p>
<ul><li>Allow up to 100 virtual devices to be created automatically</li>
<li>Always display the sign-on window</li>
<li>Restrict privileged users to specific devices</li>
<li>Limit each user to one device session</li>
</ul>

and assumptions</h4><p>This scenario makes the following assumptions:</p>
<ul><li>Culver Pharmaceuticals is using an iSeries server running the IBM<sup>®</sup> OS/400<sup>®</sup> V5R2
operating system.</li>
<li>TCP/IP is configured.</li>
<li>Ken has IOSYSCFG authority.</li>
</ul>

details</h4><ol><li>Start the Telnet server. <ol class="compact" type="a"><li>In iSeries Navigator,
expand <span class="menucascade"><span class="uicontrol">your iSeries server</span> &gt; <span class="uicontrol">Network</span> &gt; <span class="uicontrol">Servers</span> &gt; <span class="uicontrol">TCP/IP</span></span>.</li>
<li>In the right pane, in the Server Name column, locate <span class="uicontrol">Telnet</span>.</li>
<li>Confirm that <span class="uicontrol">Started</span> appears in the Status column.</li>
<li>If the server is not running, right-click <span class="uicontrol">Telnet</span> and
click <span class="uicontrol">Start</span>.</li>
</ol>
</li>
<li>Set the number of virtual devices. <ol class="compact" type="a"><li>In iSeries Navigator,
select <span class="menucascade"><span class="uicontrol">your iSeries server</span> &gt; <span class="uicontrol">Configuration
and Service</span> &gt; <span class="uicontrol">System Values</span></span>.</li>
<li>In the right pane, right-click <span class="uicontrol">Devices</span> and select <span class="uicontrol">Properties</span>.</li>
<li>On the Devices System Values page, enable <span class="uicontrol">Pass-through devices
and TELNET</span> and set the <span class="uicontrol">Maximum number of devices</span> to
100.</li>
</ol>
</li>
<li>Configure Telnet server properties.<ol class="compact" type="a"><li>In iSeries Navigator,
select <span class="menucascade"><span class="uicontrol">your iSeries server</span> &gt; <span class="uicontrol">Network</span> &gt; <span class="uicontrol">Servers</span> &gt; <span class="uicontrol">TCP/IP</span></span>.</li>
<li>In the right pane, right-click <span class="uicontrol">Telnet</span> and select <span class="uicontrol">Properties</span>.

<td valign="top" headers="d0e169 ">Specify the action to take when jobs reach a time-out. You can also
specify how long to give an operation before the job times out. You can specify
information for both inactive jobs and disconnected jobs.</td>

not just Telnet.</div>

<li>Assign devices to subsystems.<div class="p">At the character-based interface, type: <pre>ADDWSE SBSD(QINTER) WRKSTNTYPE(*ALL)</pre>
</div>
</li>
<li>Activate the QSYSWRK subsystem.<p>Check the status of the QSYSWRK subsystem:</p>
<ol class="compact" type="a"><li>In the iSeries server
character-based interface, type <samp class="codeph">WRKSBS</samp> (Work with active
subsystems).</li>
<li>Verify that the following systems are displayed: <ul><li>QSYSWRK</li>
<li>QINTER</li>
<li>QSPL</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ol>
<p>If the QSYSWRK subsystem is not active, complete the following steps:</p>
<ol class="compact" type="a"><li>In the iSeries server
character-based interface, type <samp class="codeph">STRSBS</samp> (Start subsystem).</li>
<li>Type <span class="uicontrol">QSYSWRK</span> for the Subsystem description and <span class="uicontrol">QSYS</span> for
the library, then press <span class="uicontrol">Enter</span>.</li>
<li>Repeat for Subsystem name <span class="uicontrol">QINTER</span> with Library <span class="uicontrol">QSYS</span>,
and for Subsystem name <span class="uicontrol">QSPL</span> with Library <span class="uicontrol">QSYS</span>.</li>
</ol>
</li>
<li>Create Telnet user profiles.<ol class="compact" type="a"><li>Start iSeries Navigator
and expand <span class="uicontrol">your iSeries server</span>.</li>
<li>Right-click <span class="uicontrol">Users and Groups</span> and select <span class="uicontrol">New
User</span>.</li>
<li>Enter the user name, description, and password.</li>
<li>To specify a job description, click <span class="uicontrol">Jobs</span> and enter
the job description.</li>
<li>Click <span class="uicontrol">OK</span>.</li>
</ol>

<li>Verify that Telnet is working.<ul class="simple"><li>Ken starts a 5250 emulation session and connects to the Telnet server.</li>
</ul>
