<h2 id="rzahqfilerecovery">Recover integrated Windows server files</h2>
<p>IBM&reg; iSeries&trade; Integrated Server Support supports file-level backup and recovery
of your files. You can recover a particular file from your i5/OS&trade; backup without
restoring the entire disk drive. Before using this method, however, consider
the amount of data you need to restore. For large amounts of data, restoring
an entire disk drive object is much faster than restoring all the individual
files in the disk drive. To restore a smaller amount of data, this method
works great.</p>
<p>You should restore the directory first, then files, then the registry,
then reboot for new registry entries to take effect. To restore files that
you saved by this method, use the RST command:</p>
<ol type="1">
<li>Ensure that the integrated Windows server and TCP/IP are running.</li>
<li>On the i5/OS command line, type <tt>RST</tt> and press F4.</li>
<li>In the <tt>Device</tt> field, specify the device on
which the data is available. (For example, <tt>'QSYS.LIB/TAP01.DEVD'</tt> restores the data from tape.)</li>
<li>In the <tt>Object</tt> field, specify what you want i5/OS to restore in the form '/QNTC/<span class="italic">servername</span>/sharename'
<p>You can use wildcard characters. Refer to <a href="rzahqflbackupaddexamp.htm#rzahqflbackupaddexamp">Examples: How to address parts of an integrated Windows server</a> for
how to specify particular parts of an integrated Windows server. Avoid restoring
Windows system files by this method because the restored files may behave
unpredictably.</p></li>
<li>In the <tt>Name</tt> field, specify the path name of
the object to restore.</li>
<li>You can use the <tt>Include or omit</tt> field to include
or omit objects with the pattern that you specify in the <tt>Name</tt> portion of the <tt>Object</tt> parameter.</li>
<li>In the <tt>New object name</tt> field, leave the object
name the same or specify a new path name. The new path name must be referenced
by a share name that exists on the integrated Windows server.
<dl>
<dt class="bold"><span class="bold">Note:</span></dt>
<dd>When you save a directory that has shares defined over it, i5/OS saves the share
information with the directory. If you specify a new object name when you
restore the directory, i5/OS does not re-create these shares.
</dd>
</dl></li>
<li>Use the <tt>Directory subtree</tt> field to specify
whether you want to restore subtrees under a directory. The default is to
restore all directories.</li>
<li>To specify that you want to restore files that were saved during a particular
period, specify starting and ending dates and times in the <tt>Change period</tt> field.</li>
<li>Provide any other information that you want i5/OS to use to restore the files and press
Enter.</li>
<li>When the files are restored, reboot the integrated server for new registry
entries to take effect.</li></ol>
